Afraid of the Dark?

Anytime there’s news with ‘Guillermo del Toro’ and ‘horror’ in the same sentence, my ears perk up. I’m sure I’m not the only one, so I’ve decided to share this news with all of you.

The Hollywood Reporter dropped word on a new flick Guillermo del Toro is looking to produce with Miramax titled DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK. I’m already sold on del Toro and the title alone!

DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK is a remake of the 1973 cult classic directed by John Newland. Seeing how I’ve never heard of the original… I’m all for it! Troy Nixey, who’s more known in the comic book world as a writer/artist, has signed on to make his directorial debut. Guillermo del Toro and Matthew Robbins will adapt the script for Dimension.

DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK is about a young girl who’s sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend then discovers there are sinister creatures that live underneath the stairs.

That plot with Mr. del Toro having a helping hand in this … then throw in a comic book pro as the director? I see only brilliant things! THR says we can expect something similar to del Toro’s PAN’S LABYRINTH in relations to the creatures and characters.

Nixey had the following to say regarding the project:

“It has always been a dream of mine to work on a project with Guillermo, my favorite filmmaker. I had no idea it would be on my first one out. Miramax’s faith in me is everything a first-time director could ask for.”

We’ll be keeping a close eye on DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, so we’ll keep you updated.

Maybe she’s afraid of the dark? I’d love to find out!
