Legendary thesp and lover of asses Al Pacino has picked his next film – the financial thriller ARBITRAGE from writer-director Nicholas Jarecki (THE OUTSIDER). According to Variety, he’ll be joining lovely actresses Susan Sarandon (WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS) and Eva Green (CASINO ROYALE) as “a hedge fund magnate who is in over his head and desperate to complete the sale of his trading empire to a major bank before his fraud is revealed.” Vatiety then writes, “But an unexpected, bloody error forces him to turn to the most unlikely corner for help.” I’m presuming the word ‘bloody’ is being used in its British form? Because blood and guts ‘bloody’ doesn’t seem to correlate with hedge funds (or, hey, maybe I’m just naive).
In any event, the film comes as another in a line of financial dramas that have sparked interest, particularly overseas, since the economic shitstorm that began in 2008. (Oliver Stone’s WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS hasn’t done great business here, but has fared better internationally.)
Pacino’s been pretty active of late. He recently won an Emmy portraying the infamous Dr. Kevorkian in HBO’s “You Don’t Know Jack”, and also appeared onstage in “The Merchant of Venice”. He’s currently filming the Dennis Dugan comedy JACK AND JILL opposite Adam Sandler and Katie Holmes.
