SPOILERS for THE PREDATOR below, so consider yourself warned. The recent Shane Black film may not have generated the critical enthusiasm which many were hoping it would, but it reportedly came close to featuring the return of two major characters from 20th Century Fox's other big alien-centric franchise: Ellen Ripley and Newt.
The ending of THE PREDATOR found Quinn (Boyd Holbrook) and Rory (Jacob Tremblay) witnessing the the opening of a piece of cargo from the Predator's ship which revealed itself to be a transforming Predator Killer suit. Special effects artist Yuri Everson took to Instagram recently to reveal that three different endings to THE PREDATOR were filmed, one of which found Ellen Ripley inside the Predator's cargo and another which found Rebecca "Newt" Jordan as the occupant. We shot 3 different endings for #thepredator, all variations of a "Predator Killer". This unused ending was Predator Killer Ripley wearing the breather mask we created for the film. You can see her name tag there on her costume. Breanna Watkins played Ripley under the mask instead of Sigourney Weaver. The moving "fingers" and "tail" were deemed too facehugger-like on the day and were cut and removed by someone… ?? Sorry @jon_k_miller who headed up making the breather mask for us @thestudioadi with @saratheterra @ape5150 Zac Teller and Lord Garth but they made me do it! The time-frames don't exactly match up (not to mention the fates of Ripley and Newt in the main ALIEN series) but it's possible that 20th Century Fox was hoping to kick off another ALIEN/PREDATOR cinematic universe. That worked out so well the first time around. THE PREDATOR is now available on DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD/Digital.
