AMERICAN PSYCHO is without a doubt one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m talking solid Top 3 quality. So when I saw there was some PSYCHO news making the rounds, I just had to spread the word.
And what a word it is… picture this people. Patrick Bateman, one of the greatest characters to ever grace the screen, prancing around on broadway singing a catchy tune as he smashes Paul Allen in the face with an ax. Yes, I’m talking about an AMERICAN PSYCHO musical.
Hell, if Ash can do it, why not Bateman? The news is actually pretty exciting, considering AMERICAN PSYCHO had a heavy emphasis on the music Bateman discussed. Apparently the musical will have original 1980s inspiried songs and familiar covers of hits from the era. Some of the bands they’re hoping to include are Talking Heads, Genesis, and Huey Lewis and the News.
Bret Easton Ellis penned the novel that PSYCHO was based off of. He’ll also be a consulting producer on the musical along with Edward R. Pressman, who produced the film. The AMERICAN PSYCHO musical will be coming from Johnson-Roessler Co.’s David Johnson, Craig Roessler and Jesse Singer along with the Collective’s Aaron Ray and XYZ Films’ Nate Bolotin.
All good in my book! Now I’m not a huge fan of musicals… hell I’m not even a fan of musicals in the least… but I can definately see myself digging this one. They’re looking to get things going for Bateman and company to hit the stage in 2010. No word on if Christian Bale will be reprising his greatest role to date… but I highly doubt it considering he’s running around in a costume nowadays.
