Back to the Future self-lacing shoes a real thing now! Only a year late!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

No movie has seemed to have as much of an impact on how we want our future to be than BACK TO THE FUTURE II (though being set in 2015 makes it now the past but…you know what I mean). From Pepsi Perfect, to hoverboards, to the idea of self-tying shoes, it seems we're actually making strides to mimic that particular vision of the future. Although with no flying cars or JAWS holograms, it all seems kind of moot.

However, it looks like one of those things is now becoming a reality! While Nike did sell limited edition Nike Mags without power laces in 2011, then made a prototype with working power laces last year, they now have the sneakers with self-tying laces that you can actually own.

Here's more information:

Now, to be fair, you can only get the Nike Mag by entering in a draw with a $10 minimum (though there's no limit to how many tickets you can buy). And hey, maybe you'll get really lucky and be one of the few people in the world with these awesome shoes! Until they inevitably go to retail in a few years, of course. But that's still a few years of being better than everyone else, so why not give it a shot?

I guess you'll also be helping fund the Michael J. Fox Foundation to help conquer Parkinson's disease. But, let's be real, that's not the reason you're entering the draw.

The future is now, indeed.
