Every once in a while, a horror movie will manage to fly under the radar during its entire production, then seem to come out of nowhere when it’s ready to be released. That’s the case with writer/director Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, which we had never heard about until the trailer and poster showed up online today. You can watch the trailer in the embed above, then check out the poster at the bottom of this article. Coming to us from 20th Century Studios and New Regency, Barbarian is scheduled to reach theatres in the U.S. and Canada on Wednesday, August 31st.

Cregger, who co-created the TV series The Whitest Kids U’Know, crafted a story for Barbarian that begins when

a young woman traveling to Detroit for a job interview books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked, and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgement, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.

The film stars Georgina Campbell (Krypton), Bill Skarsgård (It), Justin Long (Tusk), Matthew Patrick Davis (Dwight in Shining Armor), Jaymes Butler (Spides), Kurt Braunohler (The Big Sick), J.R. Esposito (Pandora), Devina Vassileva (Memory), Kalina Stancheva (Assassin’s Bullet), Sophie Sörensen (The Tales of Toverud), Trevor Van Uden (A Drunk Scorpion Will Sting Itself to Death), and Richard Brake (31).

Barbarian was produced by Arnon Milchan, Roy Lee, Raphael Margules, and J.D. Lifshitz. Skarsgård serves as executive producer alongside Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Danny Chan, and Alex Lebovici.

What did you think of the trailer for Barbarian? Will you be watching this movie? It looks interesting to me and I’m a fan of several of the cast members, so I’ll definitely be checking it out at some point. Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.
