Barbie releases behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the “I’m Just Ken” sequence

One of the scenes that stole the Barbie film is Ken’s existential crisis as the Kens do battle on beach. Atlantic Records releases a new making of video for that sequence.

Ryan Gosling can now add “Billboard Hot 100 Artist” to his resume as his single, I’m Just Ken, cracked the top 5 on the charts of Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. The popular beach-off sequence in Barbie featured the tune in which Ken goes through an existential crisis while battling an army of Kens. The musical number is just one of the songs that helped to catapult Barbie The Album to over one million streams globally. The soundtrack also features exclusive tracks from Dua Lipa, Ice Spice, Nicki Minaj, and Billie Eilish.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the label behind the soundtrack, Atlantic Records, has now released a special look at the making of the I’m Just Ken musical sequence that took place in the film. Recently, behind-the-scenes footage had been released of the dance sequence that took place at an early party scene in Barbie. This new special look gives fans a peek at Gosling’s rehearsals and gives us appearances by director Greta Gerwig, executive producer Mark Ronson, the song’s co-writer/co-producer Andrew Wyatt, plus more.

The video showcases the recording of the track that is featured on the Barbie soundtrack. The featurette also displays the filming of the dance numbers and beach war with Ken’s rival, Ken, who was portrayed by Simu Liu, the new Marvel superhero from Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Also playing one of the Kens is Kingsley Ben-Adir, who is also in the Marvel universe as Secret Invasion‘s Gravik. Ncuti Gatwa from Doctor Who and Sex Education also appears.

The I’m Just Ken sequence is just one of the many tongue-in-cheek gags in Barbie. The satire is running away with the summer as it collects a worldwide box office total of $1.279 billion and a domestic take of $567.3 million. National Cinema Day is just around the corner and will likely attract many moviegoers to visit theaters, which could add to Barbie‘s already large gross. Last year, the Labor Day/Cinema Day holiday combo would push Top Gun: Maverick back to number one and raised it closer to nearly $720 million.
