As was widely expected, Quentin Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS will premiere at this May’s Cannes Film Festival where it has been invited to screen in competition. That would put BASTERS up against Pixar’s UP in what should be the oddest head-to-head competition in recent memory. Weinstein Co and Universal have yet to make a formal statement but Tarantino has informed them that he will have the film ready by May. As I said before, this should come as no surprise seeing as how Tarantino announced the film last year saying he would be back at Cannes in 2009 with a finished print of BASTERDS (and the man ain’t lyin). The full Cannes lineup won’t be revealed until April 23 with the Festival itself running from May 13-24.
