THE ACCOUNTANT starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world's most dangerous criminal organizations. Also starring Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons, THE ACCOUNTANT was a success for Warner Bros., who quickly got the ball rolling on a sequel which would find Affleck returning as well as director Gavin O'Connor and screenwriter Bill Dubuque. However, it's been several years since that announcement with little movement forward, but Ben Affleck provided an update while speaking recently with Collider, which could take on the form of a TV series instead.

"We’ve talked about it," Affleck said. "There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel… But that’s sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesn’t really work to just say, ‘Well, we used call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now we’re going to call it The Accountant 2′." The basic premise certainly lends itself to a procedural TV series, but Affleck added that he'd be more than happy to play the character on the big-screen once again.

It is one of the few movies that I’ve worked on, that I’d be thrilled to work with Gavin again and do that again. I had a great time. It was a lot of fun. It was an interesting twist on the genre and I’d love to do it.

Although the sequel to THE ACCOUNTANT continues wandering though the void of development hell, Ben Affleck and Gavin O'Connor have reunited for THE WAY BACK, a sports drama which stars Affleck as Jack Cunningham, a former high school basketball star who was on track for a bright future when he suddenly walked away from a full university scholarship and subsequently spiraled into depression and alcoholism. Years later, he reluctantly begins teaching the basketball team at his alma mater, and when the boys start coming together, he may just have what he needs to to finally confront his demons. THE WAY BACK will hit theaters on March 6, 2020.
