BioShock update

No, it’s not a positive update. I figured I’d get that out of the way to not get your hopes up. Last month I told you how the BIOSHOCK adaptation had hit a major roadblock. Well we’ve had a couple updates since then but unfortunately it’s not looking good.

First up we have some interesting casting whispers making the rounds. You see Wentworth Miller (right) recently posted an eyecatching ‘tweet’ (I can’t believe I just typed that..): PRISON BREAK may be ending, but I’ve got things in the works. Hint… one word: BIOSHOCK. Hmm. Alright… I wonder what he meant by that? Duh! But aha! The joke’s on you!

You see Miller’s Twitter was quickly taken down after said ‘tweet’ (Oh shit I did it twice…). You can actually head to Moviehole to check out some screenshots of it. So what does that mean? Well I’m guessing one of two things. Either the account was bullshit from the beginning or Miller spilled some beans that weren’t meant to be spilled. I suppose it really doesn’t matter once I get to my next update…

BIOSHOCK director Gore Verbinski just had a chat with the LA Times where he all but says he’s stepping away from the project:

The bottom line is it has to shoot out of the States for budget reasons and my schedule may be prohibitive. There’s a great script and a really interesting cast. It really comes down to the financial model now. Big movies are just not being shot in the States. I’m weighing whether I can physically go the U.K. or Australia or one of those other places with a tax rebate for a year-and-a-half.

Apparently Verbinski spent the last few years making some kind of ridiculously successful PIRATE movies so it’s no surprise he’s got his slate pretty full. So it’s completely understandable that he wouldn’t be able to dedicate all that time to one film… but in the same token that really sucks for us because we all know Verbinski would’ve rocked that shit! So it looks like BIOSHOCK is in line to sit on the shelf with the likes of HALO. As always we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears open so keep it here for updates.

There’s a lot of awesome things that go on underwater…
