Earlier this year, we heard that Netflix had hired Alex and David Pastor to write and direct a Spanish language spin-off from the streaming service’s hit from Bird Box. A title for this project still hasn’t been revealed, but Deadline has now confirmed that filming will begin in November and a cast has been assembled that includes Mario Casas (Witching and Bitching), Georgina Campbell (Krypton), Diego Calva (I Promise You Anarchy), Alejandra Howard (Fatima), Naila Schuberth (Unbroken/Geburtstagskind), Patrick Criado (Money Heist), Celia Freijeiro (Vida Perfecta), Lola Dueñas (The Sea Inside), Gonzalo de Castro (Doctor Mateo), Michelle Jenner (Isabel), and Leonardo Sbaraglia (The Legacy of the Bones).
Described as an “expansion of the Bird Box universe”, this film has the following synopsis:
After a mysterious force decimates the world’s population by causing all who see it to take their lives, Sebastian and his young daughter Anna must navigate their own journey of survival through the desolate streets of Barcelona. But as they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat more sinister than the unseen creatures grows.

Bird Box producers Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan are producing this movie alongside Nostromo Pictures’ Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls. Chris Morgan Productions’ Ainsley Davies and Dylan Clark Productions’ Brian Williams executive produce with Ryan Lewis, Bird Box director Susanne Bier, and Josh Malerman, who wrote the novel the first film was based on. a mother and her two young children, who are among a small group of survivors after a mysterious alien force has driven the world’s population to deadly violence. The three must make their way on a terrifying journey — 20 miles in a rowboat — while blindfolded, with nothing to rely on but the mother’s wits and the children’s trained ears.
The Pastors’ previous credits include The Occupant, Carriers, the Syfy show Incorporated, and the HBO Max series The Head. Netflix assures that their Bird Box spin-off will have a “distinctly Spanish flavor”.
