James Nguyen’s BIRDEMIC has quickly built itself a following thanks to being a completely ridiculous, tone-deaf “romantic thriller” made by a former software salesman. It’s a “point and laugh at it” goof that can either classify as the most horrendous movie ever made, or the greatest stunt pulled on an audience. (I seriously have wrestled with the idea that it’s intentionally bad – it’s that f*cking terrible.) But lightning doesn’t strike twice, and a second attempt at the BIRDEMIC thing doesn’t right now sound like a home run.
But it’s happening, apparently. Over at the laughably stripped-down official website of production company Moviehead Pictures, Nguyen has happily announced the cast and slapped down a poster for BIRDEMIC: THE RESURECTION. In 3D. (Yeah, sure.)
Of course, a synopsis is in order, one just as simple as the person who wrote it: A platoon of eagles and vultures attack Hollywood, California. Why did the eagles and vultures attack? Who will survive?
The problem with making a sequel is that, obviously, everyone involved is completely in on the joke now. Will that make it any less awful? Probably not. But I wonder if BIRDEMIC 2 will be able to match the absurd cluelessness of the first one. Is a joke ever as funny when it’s told a second time?
As for the cast, Alan Bagh will return as that hotshot “Rod”, while Alexandra Forsythe (evidently the granddaughter of deceased TV icon John Forsythe) and a dude named Lyle Drucker will also star in this beauty (see below). Not to mention all those irritating eagles and vultures, no doubt still arriving as GIF images.
Principal photography will begin in January, 2011 in Hollywood, California. A Fall 201 release is planned.
