Blumhouse pulls Forever Purge from July release

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

So I was really looking forward to the upcoming PURGE sequel – FOREVER PURGE – but due to the current climate, Universal and Blumhouse made the inevitable and wise decision to pull the theatrical release, which was set for July 10th. And, since the last PURGE film – the prequel THE FIRST PURGE – was the highest grossing entry in the franchise (making over $130 million on a $13 million budget), it's doubtful they will simply dump it on VOD.

Now, obviously no release date has been announced as of yet, but we'll definitely keep you posted as this story develops.

Meanwhile, THE PURGE series is "one of the most political charged horror franchises out there, using The Purge (a one-day event in a dystopian America where all crimes are legal, including murder) as a metaphor to dramatize and satirize the vast class divide in the country". It's even interesting how relatively bloodless it is, and even less cynical too (the second movie, for instance, insinuates that the fascist government actually hires professional kill squads to murder people in underprivileged neighborhoods to goose up the death rate and make The Purge look more successful and popular than it actually is).

But what do you guys think? Any fans of THE PURGE series? If so, looking forward to the sequel? Either way, sound off below!
