Earlier this month we told you that THE BOX’s release date had been set for March 20, 2009.
The guys over at Collider are saying otherwise. They claim that word coming out of Warner Bros. have THE BOX coming out way later than March. 5 months later to be exact. Word now is the release date will be September 11, 2009. That’s also the date listed on IMDB, but we all know how reliable IMDB is.
That’s over a year away, and the first test screening for the flick is happening this Thursday in LA. So the movie is pretty much done… but they’re going to wait a year to release it? I guess all we can do is hope it’s worth the wait.
I’m a huge Richard Kelly fan. I think I’m one of the seventeen people out there who actually liked SOUTHLAND TALES. (I really liked it actually.) And then of course there’s the great DONNIE DARKO. So I’m stoked to see how Kelly f*cks with our minds this time!
THE BOX centers on Norma and Arthur Lewis, a suburban couple with a young child, receive a simple wooden box as a gift, which bears fatal and irrevocable consequences. A mysterious stranger, delivers the message that the box promises to bestow upon its owner $1 million with the press of a button. But, pressing this button will simultaneously cause the death of another human being somewhere in the world; someone they don’t know. With just 24 hours to have the box in their possession, Norma and Arthur find themselves in the cross-hairs of a startling moral dilemma and must face the true nature of their humanity.
It stars Cameron Diaz (below) and James Marsden with Richard Kelly writing and directing off a short story by the great Richard Matheson. So we’re looking at September 11, 2009 as of now, we’ll keep you updated if that changes.
