Brad Pitt says he suffers from prosopagnosia, a rare disorder that causes face blindness

Brad Pitt, prosopagnosia, face blindness, disorder, rare

If you run into Brad Pitt, and he seemingly doesn’t recognize you after meeting you a few times, don’t take it personally. According to the Bullet Train actor, he suffers from what he believes is prosopagnosia, a rare disorder that causes face blindness.

When speaking with GQ, the 58-year-old actor says he believes he suffers from the disorder, although he hasn’t been officially diagnosed. He told the outlet that he has difficulty recognizing people and worries that his disorder has led many to believe that he’s coming off as “aloof, inaccessible, and self-absorbed.”

This isn’t the first time he has alluded to having prosopagnosia. In 2013, he told Esquire, “So many people hate me because they think I’m disrespecting them. Every now and then, someone will give me context, and I’ll say, ‘Thank you for helping me.’ But I piss more people off. You get this thing, like, ‘You’re being egotistical. You’re being conceited.’ But it’s a mystery to me, man. I can’t grasp a face, and yet I come from such a design/aesthetic point of view. I am going to get it tested.” As of this writing, it looks like Pitt still hasn’t officially been tested, and it will remain a mystery if he has the rare disorder.

Prosopagnosia is a cognitive disorder of face perception in which the ability to recognize familiar faces, including one’s own face, is impaired. There are no widely accepted treatments for the condition; it usually is present at birth and will affect sufferers for most of their lives.
