It’s been great to see Brendan Fraser return to our screens, and one of the actor’s upcoming projects finds him starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. While the pair haven’t actually worked together before, their reunion on set was a special one for Fraser.

While speaking with GQ, Brendan Fraser spoke of reuniting with Leonardo DiCaprio on Killers of the Flower Moon decades after their first brief encounter. Fraser had seen a screening of What’s Eating Gilbert Grape on the Paramount lot and wanted DiCaprio to know how great he was in the movie.

When he was I think probably all of, I don’t know, 17, 16 maybe, he did Gilbert Grape. I saw it on the Paramount lot. I think I had just been in School Ties or something then, and I was, like, flummoxed but I just wanted to tell him, Hear, hear. That was incredible.

When they reunited on the set of Killers of the Flower Moon, Brendan Fraser said that Leonardo DiCaprio remembered their first meeting all those years ago. “He repeated that to me,” Fraser said. “He remembered me. He said: You were the only guy who didn’t treat me like a little kid. He volunteered that to me. That was meaningful.” Fraser is playing a defence lawyer in the movie, which also stars Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, Lily Gladstone, Tantoo Cardinal, and more.

Based on David Grann’s best-selling crime thriller, Killers of the Flower Moon will tell the true-life mystery tale of the Osage Indian nation in Oklahoma in the 1920s who became quite wealthy after oil was discovered beneath their land. Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off, and the ensuing spiral of conspiracy, greed and murder got so bad that the FBI had to step in. The movie was once expected to be released in time for Oscar season this year but was pushed back to 2023, with a debut at the Cannes Film Festival a possibility. Brendan Fraser will next be seen in The Whale, which will hit theaters on December 9th.
