Bruce Campbell hopes a younger actor takes on Ash for more Evil Dead

Bruce Campbell IS Ash Williams, but when the actor announced that he had retired from the role following the cancellation of Ash vs. Evil Dead earlier this year, it seemed to spell the end of the franchise. However, Bruce Campbell told Entertainment Weekly that he hopes the series will continue with a younger actor stepping into the role he's made famous.

"I’d be perfectly fine if they find some young Ash, do some new incarnation, let some other poor bastard get covered in blood," Campbell said. "It’s all good." The actor added that the other characters from Ash vs. Evil Dead plus those featured in Fede Alvarez's EVIL DEAD remake could all come together. "I hope there are very many variations of Evil Dead," Campbell continued. "You’ve got the leftover characters from the series, you’ve got the characters from the remake that we did a few years ago. You can intersect universes." Although Bruce Campbell has said that he's done with Ash Williams, it seems that his retirement only extends to live-action appearances as he's set to reprise the role for an upcoming EVIL DEAD video-game.

Although there's been very little movement on bringing the EVIL DEAD franchise back to the big-screen, Fede Alvarez has previously said that he'd be down for returning to the franchise assuming everyone can agree on a story.

Look, I love those movies. Making my Evil Dead was an amazing experience, it was my first film. So, going back at some point will be a possibility. I mean, I’m really good friends with all those guys, with Bruce, and Sam, and Rob (Tapert, who has produced all the Evil Dead movies). So, we always chat about it. The good news — and I think that’s what sometimes people don’t understand — is, none of those guys will make any of these movies just because they can, just because it’s good business. They will only make it if they believe they have some good story to tell. A lot of people say that in this industry, but most of the time it’s not true. With those guys, all of us involved in those movies, we will just make them if we believe there’s a story that has to be told, and is awesome, and is great, and we believe that it will be better than anything that will be done before in that world. [When] we find that story, when we all agree on what it is, it will probably happen.

Should someone else step into the role of Ash Williams for more EVIL DEAD or should the character be retired?
