Some news coming in from Variety on Tim Burton’s upcoming Disney projects, ALICE IN WONDERLAND and FRANKENWEENIE.
Now this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Burton taking on FRANKENWEENIE. In case this is your first time hearing about it, let me refresh your memory. Tim Burton is going to be remaking his own short film for Disney. The film, FRANKENWEENIE, is about a young scientist who brings his dead dog back to life. The film is actually going to be shot in stop motion animation and shown in digital 3-D. But first Burton will be working on ALICE IN WONDERLAND.
This is the first I’m hearing that Burton is going to be making a ALICE IN WONDERLAND flick for Disney, and I’m excited about it. The interesting thing about this one is that it will combine performance-capture imagery, ala BEOWULF. I’m not a huge fan of those type of graphics, but seeing something from Tim Burton’s mind hitting the screen like that? I’m down.
Linda Woolverton wrote the script for ALICE, based off the novel by Lewis Carroll. Richard Zanuck, Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd, and Jennifer Todd are all producing. Production is set to start early 2008 and wrap by May.
