Carrier: Kate Bosworth, Ron Perlman, Lin Shaye to star in Renny Harlin horror film

Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns) has signed on to star alongside two legends – Ron Perlman (Hellboy) and Lin Shaye (Insidious) – in the horror film Carrier, which is coming to us from director Renny Harlin. Harlin’s previous directing credits include Prison, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Die Hard 2, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, Cliffhanger, Cutthroat Island, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Deep Blue Sea, Driven, Mindhunters, Exorcist: The Beginning, The Covenant, Devil’s Pass, The Legend of Hercules, Skiptrace, Bodies at Rest, The Misfits, and Class Reunion 3. He has made a lot of really cool movies and some not-so-good ones, but Renny Harlin will always have our attention here at JoBlo and Arrow in the Head.

Written by the 10 Cloverfield Lane writing team of Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken, Carrier will show us what happens when

a mysterious phenomenon leads to mass chaos. A splintering family escapes to a small island… but their troubles are only beginning.

Harlin and Daljit DJ Parmar are producing the film through Extraordinary Entertainment, along with Sentient Pictures International’s Pierre Morel, Renee Tab, and Christopher Tuffin. Campbell and Stuecken are executive producing with Michael Yeates, Dimiter Nikolov, Andrew Marcus, Andy Schefter, and Rob Van Norden. Ryan Ozonian, Boyko Draganov, and Rob Perryman are co-producers.

Harlin had this to say about Carrier:

Josh and Matt have created a spellbinding screenplay, which provides me with an arsenal of exceptional characters, non-stop twists and turns, and groundbreaking action. Our fantastic cast, led by Kate Bosworth, Ron Perlman and Lin Shaye is a genre enthusiast’s dream come true.”

Deadline reports that there’s also a “play-to-earn NFT element” to the movie. There will be a Carrier blockchain game and a high profile NFT event in March. Yeates said,

For the first time ever, viewers will be able to experience a play-to-earn digital game, in which they can own NFTs based on characters and weaponry portrayed in the Carrier movie. This is a brand new and engaging way for film IP and gaming to engage blockchain technology.”

I still have zero interest in this whole NFT thing, but I’m looking forward to watching the movie. It will be a while before Carrier is released, because filming isn’t expected to begin until this fall. Production will take place in Europe.

Harlin is currently in post-production on a horror movie called The Refuge, starring Jason Flemyng.
