Charlie Cox doesn’t think that Daredevil will play well with The Defenders

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Even before Charlie Cox first slipped into Daredevil's underoos, we all knew that each of Marvel's Netflix series would eventually culminate with The Defenders, an epic mini-series which will bring together Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). With at least two more Marvel/Netflix seasons to go before we're witness to that epic team-up, Charlie Cox told Entertainment Weekly that Daredevil's current state of mind isn't exactly open to the whole team-up game at the moment.

Something that’s very tricky for Matt is to allow anyone to help him. He finds it impossible to ask for help, for a number of reasons. One, because he doesn’t want to endanger people that he loves, but also because he has an arrogance, he has a self-confidence and a belief, and I think at times a belief in his own invincibility, which is false, that he can do it all by himself, and it’s very stubborn at times, it's very deluded at times.

Daredevil's upcoming second season will see Matt Murdock trying to bring order back to his city, but with new forces rising in Hell's Kitchen, including Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung) and The Punisher (Jon Bernthal), Murdock will be faced with a life-altering choice which forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero. Charlie Cox hopes that those choices will help Daredevil realize that he does need other people, hopefully paving the way for Daredevil's inevitable team-up with The Defenders.

One of the lessons that he’s going to have to learn this season is that he needs other people, he needs help, we all need help. And hopefully, that will therefore mentally prepare him for what’s coming, which is – and I don’t know what the dynamic of the Defenders will be – but if that is going to be a team-up, then he’s going to have to learn those lessons in Season 2. Hopefully.

Daredevil's second season hits Netflix this Friday, while Luke Cage will debut on September 30, 2016.
