Check out 20 minutes of deleted scenes from Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master

THE MASTER was one of my favorite movies of 2012 and it is a shame that it was not recognized by the Academy for Best Picture. Many people stayed away from it in theaters, but now that it is available on Blu-ray, I implore you to check it out. While the movie may not be directly about Scientology as all of the pre-release stories about it claimed, it has gone through so many versions that it is hard to say what THE MASTER started out as. It does not resemble the original version that cast Jeremy Renner in the lead, but we do have some interesting features on the disc to show us what the movie may have been.

This video brings together multiple scenes from throughout the film with the gorgeous score backing it up. The result is almost an alternate version of THE MASTER condensed into a short film. I have been playing this in the background while I work, just enjoying the dialogue and music playing off of one another. Paul Thomas Anderson truly is a master of cinema.

While this clip is the handiwork of Bdawgi90ify on YouTube, these scenes are available as a featurette on THE MASTER Blu-ray along with a couple of others that, like THERE WILL BE BLOOD and PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE, inform the creation of the films better than any home video release I have seen outside of a Criterion.
