Chucky season 2: Lara Jean Chorostecki joins the cast in heavily recurring role

Don Mancini is best known for creating the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise, writing every one of the movies (except the remake) and directing a few of them, but he has also worked as a producer on the TV series Hannibal and Channel Zero, and wrote some episodes of both of those shows. Now Deadline has broken the news that Mancini is bringing a Hannibal cast member over to his Chucky series. Lara Jean Chorostecki, who played the character Freddie Lounds on thirteen episodes of Hannibal, is taking on a “heavily recurring role” in season 2 of the Chucky TV show.

Deadline says, “Details of Chorostecki’s character are being kept under wraps, as the setting for the new season is yet to be revealed.”

A follow-up to all of the Child’s Play movies (remake excluded), Chucky picks up where Cult of Chucky left off. Mancini developed Chucky with producer David Kirschner. Mancini and Kirschner are executive producing Chucky with Harley Peyton, Alex Hedlund, and Nick Antosca. Mancini also directed the first episode. The show’s synopsis:

After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Chucky, which aired on the NBCUniveral cable networks Syfy and USA, reached 11.6 million viewers across all platforms during the first season. Season 2 is currently filming and is expected to start airing sometime this fall.

Chorostecki joins a cast that includes Jennifer Tilly (as Tiffany Valentine), Fiona Dourif (as Nica Pierce), Zackary Arthur (as Jake Wheeler), Björgvin Arnarson (as Devon Evans), Alyvia Alyn Lind (as Lexy Cross), Alex Vincent (as Andy Barclay), Christine Elise (as Kyle), Barbara Alyn Woods (as Mayor Michelle Cross), and Brad Dourif (providing the voice of Chucky). Chucky season 2 also has Devon Sawa in its cast, despite the fact that the twin brothers he played in season 1 were both killed. Sawa has said that it feels like Mancini is going “even f*cking wilder” with season 2.
