After a four year absence from cinemas, the Wachowski Siblings (with the help of Tom Tykwer) are on their merry way back in just about the biggest way imaginable with their sprawling and mysterious adaptation of David Mtichell’s book CLOUD ATLAS.  It comes to theaters on October 6th, which gives the twenty images below just enough time to begin stirring the pot of your curiosity before you have to decide if you’ll be taking a chance on CLOUD ATLAS this fall.

Nothing I can say would prepare you for this trailer, nor could anything I say enhance it.  So let’s watch it, and regroup again after all is said and done and you’re still a bit stunned.

And here’s a plot recap that doesn’t even begin to cover it: A reluctant voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850; a disinherited composer blagging a precarious livelihood in between-the-wars Belgium; a high-minded journalist in Governor Reagan’s California; a vanity publisher fleeing his gangland creditors; a genetically modified “dinery server” on death-row; and Zachry, a young Pacific Islander witnessing the nightfall of science and civilization — the narrators of Cloud Atlas hear each other’s echoes down the corridor of history, and their destinies are changed in ways great and small.
