Cody’s Zombies @ Fox

Just last week I told you about Diablo Cody’s interest in BREATHERS: A ZOMBIE’S LAMENT. Well all we knew at the time was that Cody seemed interested in producing and that there was a script already being worked on. Today we got an update from Variety on who will be making this happen!

Fox Searchlight just scored the rights to the S.G. Browne novel and have, in fact, pegged Diablo Cody to produce. They also confirmed that Geoff Latulippe will adapt the script. This’ll be Cody’s third time working with Fox Searchlight after JUNO and the Megan Fox (below) starring JENNIFER’S BODY. Mason Novick is also producing. Here’s the novel’s synopsis:

Andy Warner reanimates after the car accident that kills his wife, but is too mangled from his injuries to talk. He lives in his parents’ wine cellar, occasionally attending a zombie support group and struggling to rejoin a society that offers the undead no rights, bans them from working and doesn’t even punish those who destroy them. When Andy and his fellow zombies—notably Rita, a sexy suicide victim with a lipstick fetish, and Jerry, a Playboy-obsessed stoner—learn why they’re so driven to consume human flesh, the repercussions are both tragic and hilarious. Browne neatly mixes humor and extreme violence with a surprisingly tender love story, some witty social satire and an extremely strong narrative voice.

So a romantic comedy with zombies. For some reason I doubt this’ll match up to a different romantic comedy with zombies. We’ll be keeping an eye on BREATHERS and will update you all once we hear more. BREATHERS: A ZOMBIE’S LAMENT is pegged to hit shelves next week on March 3rd. You can go ahead and PRE-ORDER IT NOW!
