Cool Horror Videos: Jon Lajoie’s ode to Friday the 13th 5

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Comedian Jon Lajoie has released a steady stream of songs over the years, but I always thought the pinnacle of his musical offerings would be the 2008 YouTube hit "Show Me Your Genitals". That has changed now, however, as Lajoie has put out a new song that speaks directly to my soul.

His latest tune is called "A New Beginning", and it tells a story that many horror fans can likely relate to – a young person's sexual awakening while watching a nude scene in a horror movie. For Lajoie, that moment came while he was watching an installment of my favorite franchise, FRIDAY THE 13TH, and the specific scene that both attracted and repelled him was one from FRIDAY THE 13TH: A NEW BEGINNING where a young woman played by Debi Sue Voorhees goes into the woods to have sex with her boyfriend. Their good times are interrupted by the arrival of Jason Voorhees… well, actually a hockey masked copycat killer who looks and acts just like Jason Voorhees and proceeds to brutally murder them.

For the "A New Beginning" video, that scene from A NEW BEGINNING has been rather faithfully recreated, with the twist being that the young boy watching it play out on VHS imagines that he is standing there in the woods with Debi Sue, her character's beau, and the killer.

With "A New Beginning", Lajoie has delivered a song that will have a lasting impact on me, one that I'm going to be going back to again and again. If you're familiar with that scene from FRIDAY THE 13TH: A NEW BEGINNING, this video is truly a wonderful thing.
