Cool Videos: Henry Thomas’ audition for E.T. will bring you to tears

JoBloJoBlo

Alright, ya heartless bastards. Lets see if you can watch this video and not get teary.

The Blu-ray edition of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial hit stores recently and one of the bonus features is this video. Henry Thomas, whom we all know as Elliott, was only 10 when he starred in the Steven Spielberg classic. But, he gives one of the best performances put to film. When you watch the movie, you never feel that he is acting. For skill like that to exist in a child is phenomenal.

In this screen test you can hear Spielberg giving Thomas his motivation for the scene. Thomas likely knew the basics of the story but he is going on just instinct for this audition. What he is able to emote is very powerful and moving.

Thomas has acted steadily over the years but never hit the level I expected based on E.T.: THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL. Here is hoping this performance will continue to live on for generations to come.
