Cool Videos: See Kate Winslet’s screen test for James Cameron’s Titanic

In preparation for the blu-ray release of James Cameron’s TITANIC on blu-ray this week, the studio has released the original screen test footage of Kate Winslet portraying Rose, the film’s protagonist, in a conversation with Jack, as played by actor Jeremy Sisto (Sex Feet Under). It’s a well-shot screen test in that it feels like it could be raw footage from the film and it appears that Winslet had the character locked down and prepped before “action” was called.

If nothing else, it’s an interesting peek into the hiring process for such a mega-budgeted film, especially considering that Winslet would have to carry half the burden along with her co-star. The amazing effects of the film would never be enough to sell the film alone, which Cameron was well aware of. He knew his two main stars would have to sell the epic, even if it borders on cheesy romance at times. In the end, I think they made the right choice.
