I still don’t know what to expect with Henry Selick’s CORALINE. Are we looking at a kid’s flick or a twisted fairy tale? The way it’s marketed I’m going with a family friendly dark fairy tale.. but the more I see of it the darker it gets. So could CORALINE actually be a twisted delight us genre fans might enjoy?

CORALINE comes from NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS director Henry Selick, who also adapted the script based off Neil Gaiman’s novel. The film stars the voice talent of Dakota Fanning as the titular Coraline as well as Ian McShane, Teri Hatcher (below), Keith David, and Jennifer Saunders. CORALINE follows a young girl that walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when her adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home – and save her family.
