Creepshow: five-issue horror anthology comic book series launches in September

Skybound will be publishing a five-issue horror comic book series Creepshow, a continuation of the George A. Romero, Stephen King franchiseSkybound will be publishing a five-issue horror comic book series Creepshow, a continuation of the George A. Romero, Stephen King franchise

The Shudder streaming service confirmed back in February that their Creepshow horror anthology TV series will be getting a fourth season, and while we wait to hear more information on that season, Entertainment Weekly has broken the news that there’s also going to be a five-issue Creepshow comic book series from Skybound. The first issue of the comic book series will reach shelves on September 21st!

Each issue of Creepshow will come from a different creative team, and so far the line-up of contributors includes includes Chris Burnham (Die!Die!Die!), Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series), Steve Langford (Creepshow TV series), Josh Malerman (Bird Box), David & Maria Lapham (Stray Bullets), Steve Foxe (Razorblades: The Horror Magazine), John McCrea (Hitman)and Kelley Jones (The Sandman). More will be announced down the line.

The new Creepshow projects are a continuation of the franchise George A. Romero and Stephen King began with the 1982 film Creepshow (watch it HERE) and the 1987 sequel Creepshow 2 (watch that one HERE). Romero and King drew inspiration from the classic EC Comics when crafting the original film, so it’s very fitting that there’s going to be a Creepshow comic book series. Greg Nicotero, who executive produces the Shudder Creepshow series (and also visited the set of the original Creepshow, and did special effects work on Creepshow 2), had this to say about the comic book series:

Growing up a fan of horror comics and Famous Monsters, I will never forget the thrill of seeing a new issue hit the stands … thumbing through the pages with the anticipation of diving into a dark twisted and outrageous world filled with ghouls, zombies and the classic comeuppance. I’m very proud to see Creepshow find its rightful place on comic book shelves everywhere!”

Skybound Editor Jon Moisan added:

Creepshow has consistently been one of the best things in horror for the last 40 years, and for Skybound to be able to carry on such a rich horror tradition is an absolute thrill. We knew a franchise this prolific would require the best talent in the industry, so we assembled a collection of creators that will do the Creepshow name proud. The stories they have planned are going to scare the absolute hell out of people.”‘
