Creepshow season 3 trailer features a Phantasm sphere

Greg Nicotero, the jack of all trades (writer, director, producer, FX artist, etc.) who serves as creative supervisor on the Shudder horror anthology series Creepshow, has made it clear that he really enjoys paying homage to his favorite genre classics in his own work – and he went so far with that in an episode of Creepshow‘s second season that there was a segment that felt like it was an Evil Dead fan film, complete with an appearance by Ted Raimi. There was another story where a character even inserted themselves into the 1972 film Horror Express. Creepshow season 3 will make its Shudder debut on September 23rd, and the newly released trailer embedded above makes it clear that the homages will continue. Just within this trailer we hear dialogue lifted from Rosemary’s Baby, see a visual reference to The Shining, and witness a person getting killed by a sphere from the Phantasm franchise!

Creepshow is a continuation of the franchise George A. Romero and Stephen King began with the 1982 film Creepshow (watch it HERE) and the 1987 sequel Creepshow 2 (watch that one HERE). The third season will consist of six episodes, each one split into two separate stories.

Stories in this season include

– “Mums,” directed by Rusty Cundieff and adapted by Nicotero from Joe Hill’s short story

– “Meter Reader,” which Nicotero has said will reference The Exorcist

– “The Last Subaraya,” about an art dealer who unleashes a demonic presence from a rare painting

– “Queen Bee,” about a pop star who is possessed by aliens

– “Drug Traffic,” which stars Michael Rooker as a cop investigating a strange series of killings

In addition to Rooker, the cast of Creepshow season 3 includes James Remar, Ethan Embry, Johnathon Schaech, Reid Scott, and Hannah Fierman. Fierman previously had a role in the season 2 finale, where she played Horror Express actress Silvia Tortosa.
