CW’s The Lost Boys casts new Sam & Grampa

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Earlier this month it was revealed that The CW's new THE LOST BOYS series is doing a bit of gender swapping with the famous Frog Brothers (played by Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander in the films) and switching them up to The Frog Sisters with Cheyenne Haynes and Haley Tju cast as Liza and Cassie aka The Frog Sisters. And today we have word that the new Sam – played by Corey Haim in Joel Schumacher's film – has been hired.

Rio Mangini (see below) is all set to play Michael’s younger brother, whose "high level of literacy is matched by an equally high level of snark. He seems to be the only one not enchanted by Santa Carla — a sentiment he shares with a pair of local girls, the Frog Sisters."

On top of this bit of casting news, we've also learned that Del Zamora (see below) will play the role of Frank Garcia, Lucy’s father who is described as "a cantankerous old hippie who owns a beloved local bed and breakfast. In spite of his laid-back appearance, he’s a strict disciplinarian who probably knows more about the dark side of town than he cares to tell." The role was played by Barnard Hughes in Joel Schumacher's original film.

Here's the show's synopsis, not to be confused with, you know, the movie's synopsis:

Welcome to sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat… and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

This pilot is directed by Catherine Hardwicke (TWILIGHT) from a script by Heather Mitchell who will be executive producing this new take on the classic Joel Schumacher film alongside Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz, and Bill Bindley, with Rebecca Franko producing. The companies behind the pilot are Spoondoolie Productions and Gulfstream Television, in association with Warner Bros. Television. The cast includes Sarah Hay, Tyler Posey, Kiele Sanchez, Medalion Rahimi, Dakota Shapiro, Rio Mangini, and Del Zamora with Cheyenne Haynes, Haley Tju as the Frog Sisters.
