The Baron Zemo of Marvel Comics is quite the distinctive individual with his purple mask, but when Daniel Brühl played the character in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, he had to do so without Zemo's traditional garb. The MCU version was a former Colonel of the Sokovian Armed Forces who become obsessed with seeking revenge against the Avengers after losing his family during the Battle of Sokovia in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. Zemo then masterminded a plan which fractured the Avengers and attempted to commit suicide before he was stopped by Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and turned over to the authorities.

As we know, Daniel Brühl will be reprising the role of Zemo for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the upcoming Disney+ TV series which stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. While speaking with Collider, Brühl reflected on how it felt to return to the character, this time with the mask intact.

I got the news that they wanted me to come back to shoot The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I remember that Kari Skogland, the director, came to Budapest and we recorded something with me being Zemo, and I was very happy and enthusiastic to see the mask. I was incredibly thrilled to go back because I remember that I had a lot of fun being in something completely different and getting to explore the MCU and become part of that. I have the fondest memories of collaborating with all of these wonderful actors, and to see Sebastian Stan again, and Anthony Mackie, this time around, and to come back to something which, on the one hand, felt common and known, and on the other hand, being something completely new and something fresh.

We've seen Brühl don the mask in a teaser announcement which screened at San Diego Comic-Con last year. Production on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was halted due to COVID-19 earlier this year, but the cast and crew are hopeful that shooting will be able to resume as soon as possible. Daniel Brühl will next be seen in The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, which is slated to debut on TNT on July 19th. Brühl will also be seen on the big-screen in THE KING'S MAN on September 18, 2020.
