William Faulkner once said, “In writing, you must kill all your darlings.”. This is actually one of the best pieces of writing advice anyone could ever receive. Though the actual quote has apparently different versions like “you must murder your darlings”, the overall message is still resounding.
The quote is also being used for a film starring Daniel Radcliffe called KILL YOUR DARLINGS. The first batch of photos from the set have been released through various media outlets. Radcliffe is in character as Allen Ginsberg and accompanying him, his co-star Dane DeHaan as Lucien Carr. The cast is a great one. Not only do you have Radcliffe and DeHaan thrown in Jack Huston, Michael C. Hall, Ben Foster, Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, David Cross, and Kyra Sedgwick. Here is a synopsis via /Film, “the film centers around the circle of literary friends that included Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston), and Lucien Carr (DeHaan). Also among Carr’s associates was an older man named David Kammerer (Michael C. Hall), who was in love with Carr and followed the young man around the country. In 1944, Kammerer made a sexual advance on Carr that, according to Carr, turned violent, and Carr stabbed and killed Kammerer. After dumping the body in the Hudson River, Carr turned to Kammerer’s longtime friend William Burroughs (Ben Foster) and then Kerouac for help.”
