After spending so many years in a stuffy office setting, Rainn Wilson is headed southwest to investigate a grisly double-murder case. Doesn’t that sound nice? I mean, anything is better than hocking paper products for Dunder Mifflin, right?
As I was saying, Rainn is set as a lead opposite Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon in Dark Winds, AMC’s Western noir thriller series based on Tony Hillerman’s popular Leaphorn & Chee book series. Created by Graham Roland and executive produced by George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford, the show also stars Noah Emmerich and Jessica Matten.
Per Deadline‘s description, the six-episode series is being billed as a psychological thriller that follows two Navajo police officers, Leaphorn (McClarnon) and Chee (Gordon), in the 1970s Southwest as their search for clues in a grisly double-murder case forces them to challenge their own spiritual beliefs and come to terms with the trauma of their pasts.
AMC aims to have Dark Winds premiere on AMC+ and AMC sometime in 2022. As for Wilson’s character, he’ll be playing Devoted Dan, a pious missionary who relies on his divine faith to recruit followers to the gates of his used-car lot. He is also a degenerate and practitioner of every biblical sin he decries.
Wilson recently filmed three episodes of The Power, a TV series that revolves around a group of teenage girls who mysteriously develop a special power that allows them to electrocute people at will. He’s also set to star alongside Steve Zahn, Elliot Page, and Ron Perlman in the animated comedy Robodog. He’s currently filming Jerry and Marge Go Large for director David Frankel.
