David Arquette confirmed for upcoming Scream sequel!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

So it's official, David Arquette is the first "legacy" SCREAM cast member to join the upcoming SCREAM sequel from the directors of READY OR NOT, Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett! Here's what Arquette had to say about reprising his role as Sheriff Dewey Riley again:

I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my ‘Scream’ family, old and new…SCREAM has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy.

We've already reported on talks of Neve Campbell potentially rejoining the cast as well, though that has not yet been confirmed one way or the other. Matthew Lillard has also apparently showed interest in returning…though, it seemed his character's fate was sealed in the first one (however, there was a version of SCREAM 3 that involved him recruiting killers while being in prison).

The script will be written by READY OR NOT's Guy Busick and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN's James Vanderbilt, and will be executive produced by original SCREAM writer Kevin Williamson, who had this to say about SCREAM 5:

Their take on the movie is both original, inventive and honors Wes’ legacy in a wonderful way. ‘Ready or Not’ was my favorite horror film of last year and I can’t wait to see what their amazing talents bring to the ‘Scream’ universe. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.

No official release or start date as of yet, but the production is hoping to start sometime later this year, as long as safety protocols are in place.

But what do you guys think? Excited for another SCREAM sequel? And do you prefer that it's set in the same Craven-verse, or would you have preferred a full reboot? Either way, sound off below!
