Deadline reports that production has wrapped on Dead at 27, a new Gen Z music thriller starring Sierra McCormick (American Horror Stories), Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions), Logan Miller (Escape Room), and Dylan Playfair (Letterkenny). The film also features music and acting performances from recording artists Iann Dior, Tommy Genesis, and Kya “Bludnymph” Hansen.
Written and directed by K. Asher Levin, Dead at 27 is described as a hallucinatory descent into the dark side of music and pop culture, exploring modern society’s addiction to fame, validation, and the spectacle of self-destruction. The story centers on a reclusive pop icon who resurfaces with a dangerously addictive new sound, drawing a generation of fans under her spell.
Levin previously directed the Thomas Jane thriller Dig, the Thomas Jane vampire movie Slayers, the comedic mystery Helen’s Dead, and the upcoming The Possession at Gladstone Manor.
Dead at 27 Features Original Music From Its Cast
Music plays a central role in the film, which features a full original soundtrack written by Levin and Theresa Wayman. The soundtrack includes performances by cast members and recording artists Tommy Genesis, Iann Dior, Kya “Bludnymph” Hansen, and Logan Miller.
The combination of established actors and recording artists gives Dead at 27 a connection to both the thriller genre and contemporary music culture. Rather than treating its soundtrack as a separate component, the production incorporates musical performances into the film itself, making the music an important part of its identity. Further details about the songs and how they feature in the story have not yet been announced.
Levin and Zack Imbrogno wrote the screenplay. Producers include Levin, Ashleigh Snead, Henry Boger of Free Fall Films, and Michael May. Executive producers are Selma Blair, Iann Dior, Andile Ndlovu, and Jasmine Pears, with Ronnie Exley and Jeremy Ross serving as co-executive producers. Paul Yurick, Adam Stillwell, and Nick Daue are co-producers.
Further details about the film’s release plans have not yet been announced. But, given what we have to go on so far, does Dead at 27 sound like an interesting project to you? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
