Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Guillermo del Toro's new film NIGHTMARE ALLEY with Bradley Cooper, Toni Collette, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, Rooney Mara, David Strathairn, and Holt McCallany has begun shooting. And today we have confirmation that, yes, Ron Perlman and Richard Jenkins have officially joined the cast.

Also, we have the movie's official synopsis and character descriptions.

Here’s the new official synopsis:

In NIGHTMARE ALLEY, an ambitious young carny (Bradley Cooper) with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) who is even more dangerous than he is.

As far as the character descriptions go, Perlman will play Bruno the strongman, and Jenkins plays Ezra Grindle, a wealthy industrialist who is part of the high society crowd. They are joined by Rooney Mara who plays a carnival worker named Molly, and Willem Dafoe as the show’s head barker Clem.

Del Toro said in a statement:

I’m inspired and elated to be joined by this brilliant cast. Kim Morgan and I have worked with great passion to bring the dark, raw world and language of William Gresham to the screen and now we are joined by a superb group of artists and technicians to bring it to life.

On top of the above-mentioned cast, the film also features Toni Collette (THE SIXTH SENSE, HEREDITARY) as Zeena Krumbein with David Strathairn (DOLORES CLAIBORNE, THE RIVER WILD) as Pete Krumbein, and Holt McCallany (MINDHUNTERS, FIGHT CLUB) as Anderson. Michael Shannon (THE SHAPE OF WATER, KNIVES OUT) is rumored to have a role in the film as well. But we've heard no updates on that casting rumor.

We'll keep our ears and eyes peeled.

NIGHTMARE ALLEY is directed by Guillermo del Toro from a screenplay he wrote with Kim Morgan based on the book by William Lindsay Gresham. Del Toro produces alongside J. Miles Dale. Searchlight Pictures (formerly FOX Searchlight Pictures before Disney took over) will release the film.
