Cliff Booth
A populace of movie fans waits with bated breath on what Quentin Tarantino’s self-imposed final film will be. At one point, it may have been about an esteemed movie critic, but Tarantino would jettison the idea. However, there will still technically be a Tarantino film released soon when Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth in a follow-up to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Tarantino had written the script, but David Fincher takes over as director.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
In Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, there’s a scene where Pitt’s Cliff character investigates the suspicious atmosphere of the Spahn Ranch. He finds the owner, George Spahn, played by Bruce Dern, in bed during the day and wakes him up to check on him. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dern reveals that his improvisation during that scene rattled Pitt to the point of calling for a cut to the scene. He explained,
When Brad Pitt wakes me up in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I’m in the bed and I get up and I’m a little groggy and stuff and I just say, ‘I’m not really sure what’s going on. I’m looking at him. [Pitt] cut the camera. He cut the camera.”sponsored content
As you can probably imagine, Tarantino, who is known for his strict sets, didn’t take Pitt’s breaking the scene well. Dern continued to explain,
The look on Quentin’s face — I mean, he was insanely grave — and he said, ‘Brad, what did you just do?’ [Pitt] said, ‘Well, I cut the camera.’ [Tarantino] said, ‘Never again in your life will you ever cut a camera or you’ll be dead in this business. That’s my domain. Don’t stop behavior.’ So then we went on and did the scene and all Brad did was say to him, ‘Well, that wasn’t in the script what he said.’”
Cliff Booth in IMAX
Last year, it was reported that Netflix was considering a “robust rollout” for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, and the company has recently announced that the film is set for a November 25 release in IMAX theaters. It will screen for two weeks before debuting on the streaming service on December 23. The film also stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, and Carla Gugino.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth originated from Tarantino’s scrapped script for what would have been his tenth and final movie. Pitt was very interested in his character’s part and asked Tarantino if he would let someone else take the helm of the project. The director responded that it would depend on who he had in mind. Enter David Fincher, who quickly earned Tarantino’s blessing.
