If I say the name Joe Hill, it probably doesn’t ring any bells. Then I throw the term ‘Stephen King’s son’ out there, and ding. Well that’s exactly what Hill doesn’t want to happen!
Maybe this announcement will help him with that. Dimension Films have scored the film rights to Joe Hill’s LOCKE & KEY graphic novel. They’re actually aiming to make it into a franchise.
According to Variety, LOCKE & KEY is about a trio of children who become the caretakers of Keyhouse, a mansion in New England that is full of secrets and magic. The kids discover doors that take them to different places, give them powers and even alter gender and skin color. Behind one door is a dangerously violent creature.
Dimension chief Bob Weinstein had the following to say regarding Hill’s LOCKE & KEY:
“I love what Joe wrote. There are fun elements that horror fans love, and it feels like a franchise where you can feel satisfied with each film, but there is a door left open for the next one.”
Sounds good to me. The first part of LOCKE & KEY was released last week, with the next issue set for March 5. The series will branch through 18 comics! That’s a lot, so making it into a franchise sounds good to me. John Davis will be producing with IDW Publishing’s Ted Adams executive producing.
A different type of lock… nothing wrong with that…
