Everyone knows that threatening children is a great way to get your ass kicked, and Maria Bakalova (Bodies Bodies Bodies, Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special) is ready to join a group of skilled women willing to lay the smackdown. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bakalova will join Eva Green (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) and Ruby Rose (John Wick: Chapter 2, Orange Is the New Black) in Dirty Angels, an upcoming action thriller from Millennium Media.
Cameras will roll in December in Morocco and Millennium Media’s Nu Boyana Studio in Greece, with Jonica “JoJo” T. Gibbs and Rona-Lee Shim’on being a part of the production. Penned by Alissa Silverman, Dirty Angels builds off the US’ withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. It follows a skilled group of female soldiers impersonating medical relief staff sent back into enemy territory to rescue a group of kidnapped teenagers trapped between ISIS and the Taliban.
“We are elated at how quickly this project came together under Martin’s leadership. The incredible talent that he has cultivated is a testament to the strength of his vision as a director. Alongside Eva Green, these actresses will bring to life an empowering and action-packed story that is both timely and commercial,” said co-president of Millennium Media, Jonathan Yunger.
Bakalova’s star started shining brighter after she starred in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm as the daughter of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat. Bakalova’s performance made headlines when the actress duped Rudy Giuliani into participating in a staged interview in a private hotel room. During the interview, allegedly, Giuliani reached into his pants and touched his genitals while reclining on a bed. Despite being caught in the act, Giuliani denied admitting to his inappropriate behavior. Bakalova is busy making several films, including Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. She voices Cosmo the Spacedog for the anticipated holiday-themed presentation directed and written by James Gunn. Presumably, Dirty Angels will give Bakalova a chance to stretch her action-oriented muscles, and we can’t wait to see it.
