Doctor Strange running time confirmed; Marvel’s latest runs under 2 hours

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

These days it seems all too easy for big-budget films to run longer than they should, prompting viewers to glance at their phones, wondering when these movies will actually end. Comic book films certainly fall into that category, although if you were wondering if DOCTOR STRANGE might follow suit, this news may excite you!

A certain cinema nerd (read: Chris Bumbray) likes to check into the British Board of Film Classification from time to time and has informed us that not only have they listed the running time for DOCTOR STRANGE, but also that they list it to the second! You gotta appreciate the preciseness! So how long does Marvel’s latest run? 114 minutes and 49 seconds.

Before you get the wrong idea, I’m not about to bash a movie because it runs longer than 2 hours, or praise it because it runs under. I think a film should last as long as it needs to in order to tell its story. With that said, I do respect a film that knows how to keep its story concise, as a story should end leaving the viewers wanting more and not the other way around. I doubt Marvel has remained conscious of this when crafting STRANGE, but I do respect that we’ll probably avoid cinema fatigue with this one.

DOCTOR STRANGE opens in theaters on November 4, 2016.
