The spice is flowing today with the release of a new Dune: Part Two trailer! The continuation of Denis Villeneuve’s excellent adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel series is months away, and the hype train is officially chugging at full steam ahead. It is said to be “more of an action movie” than the 2021 original, with the fate of Arrakis hanging in the balance.

In today’s Dune: Part Two trailer, Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) experiences nightmare visions of a future where his enemies lay waste to his people and ravage the land he’s sworn to protect. As he accrues allies for an oncoming war, he and Chani (Zendaya) establish a deeper connection, with prophesized love coming true. With the Harkonnen increasing their numbers and marching on Arrakis, Atredeides and his compatriots propel themselves into a battle for the ages, riding sandworms into certain doom and destruction.

The new Dune: Part Two trailer offers excellent looks at nefarious members of Team Harkonnen, including Rabban (Dave Bautista), the Harkonnen assassin Feyd-Rautha (Austin Butler), the galactic emperor Shaddam IV (Christopher Walken), and Shaddam’s daughter, Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh).

Dune: Part Two, trailer, Denis Villeneuve

Yesterday, we learned Dune: Part Two has a runtime of 166 minutes, a full 11 minutes longer than its predecessor. It’s also Villeneuve’s longest film, offering fans jaw-dropping visuals, an outlandish atmosphere, and enough tension to make even the most steadfast moviegoer snap with excitement.

It’s possible that Dune: Part Two will not be the end of the saga, as Villeneuve has teased a third movie based on Dune Messiah. “If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream,” Villeneuve said. “Dune Messiah was written in reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero…Which is not what he wanted to do. My adaptation [of Dune] is closer to his idea that it’s actually a warning.”

Dune: Part Two will “explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.” The film was supposed to have hit theaters last month, but WB pushed the release back to March 1, 2024.
