Actor David Dastmalchian has an impressive list of credits that includes Late Night With the Devil, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Oppenheimer, The Boogeyman, Dune, The Suicide Squad, the Ant-Man films, Blade Runner 2049, The Belko Experiment, Prisoners, and The Dark Knight, among many others. Now Collider reports that Dastmalchian has joined the cast of Hannibal TV series creator Bryan Fuller’s family-oriented horror project Dust Bunny.

This project was announced last November, not long before we learned that Fuller is also working on a Friday the 13th TV series called Crystal Lake for franchise rights holders Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian (plus Miller’s lawyer Marc Toberoff), A24, and the Peacock streaming service. Dust Bunny went into production earlier this year, with Hannibal himself Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver (Alien) in lead roles.

Filming took place in Budapest, and the producers were able to secure an interim agreement that allowed production to continue through the lengthy SAG strike (which ended last month).

Fuller is producing the film with Entertainment One and Thunder Road‘s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee. Said to be “a throwback to the family horror films of the ’80s”, Dust Bunny tells the story of an eight-year-old girl who recruits her strange neighbor to hunt and kill the monster living under her bed. The girl says the monster ate her family, and she wants revenge.

Details on the characters Mikkelsen, Weaver, and Dastmalchian are playing have not been revealed, but Weaver told New York Social Diary that her character is “not so nice”, despite having “really beautiful costumes”.

I was already interested in Dust Bunny and was sold on checking it out as soon as I read the “a throwback to the family horror films of the ’80s” description. Now my interest in the film has been boosted even higher, because I always enjoy watching David Dastmalchian in anything he happens to appear in.
