It may have taken eight films, but the FAST & FURIOUS franchise will soon be getting its first spin-off with HOBBS & SHAW. The upcoming film stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, who will be reprising their roles of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, as they form an uneasy alliance while they go up against a bigger threat. Johnson has made sure to keep fans updated on the film as production continues, and the actor took to Instagram today to share an image of Vanessa Kirby's character, a bad-ass MI6 operative by the name of Hattie Shaw who just so happens to be the sister of Jason Statham's character.
Director David Leitch told JoBlo earlier this year that instead of fast cars and heists, the spin-off will lean more into the world of the two title characters. "I'm excited to put them in crazy situations and make them survive and see where it takes them. In the universe, they come from more the spy world and the agent world and I think we want to lean into their worlds and expand their universe as well and have fun with that," Leitch said. "Look, those movies are fun and I'm a huge fan so I'm excited to take my swing at it and do my own take." In addition to Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Vanessa Kirby (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT), HOBBS & SHAW will also star Eddie Marsan (DEADPOOL 2) in an undisclosed role and Idris Elba (STAR TREK BEYOND) as Brixton, the main villain of the film who will be wrecking havoc, hell, and mayhem on our heroes. HOBBS & SHAW is slated for an August 2, 2019 release.
