Elisabeth Moss goes punk rock superstar in trailer for Her Smell

In her third collaboration with writer/director Alex Ross Perry, Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale) plays Becky Something in HER SMELL, a '90s punk-rock superstar whose fame is fading just as quickly as her life falls apart around her. Finding herself shunned, isolated, and alone, Becky is forced to confront her demons and try to recapture the creative inspiration which first led her band to success. You can check out the new trailer for the film above.

Elisabeth Moss told THR last year that the role was the hardest thing she's ever done. "I've done some really difficult things, challenging roles and challenging scenes. But this was the hardest thing I've ever done. It was not fun a lot of the time. It was hard to be in that head space, and hard to be in that person, with all that chaos and craziness," Moss said. "Some things are more fun to play than others. And this was difficult. At the end, I was incredibly fulfilled and happy that I'd done the role. But when we were shooting it, it was not easy. I've done four films this summer, and that was definitely the hardest one." In addition to Elisabeth Moss, the upcoming film also stars Cara Delevingne (SUICIDE SQUAD), Dan Stevens (APOSTLE), Agyness Deyn (THE TITAN), Amber Heard (AQUAMAN), Gayle Rankin (THE GREATEST SHOWMAN), Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars), Virginia Madsen (CANDYMAN), and Eric Stoltz (Madam Secretary).

The official synopsis for HER SMELL:

Becky Something (Elisabeth Moss) is a ’90s punk rock superstar who once filled arenas with her grungy all-female trio Something She. Now she plays smaller venues while grappling with motherhood, exhausted bandmates, nervous record company executives, and a new generation of rising talent eager to usurp her stardom. When Becky’s chaos and excesses derail a recording session and national tour, she finds herself shunned, isolated and alone. Forced to get sober, temper her demons, and reckon with the past, she retreats from the spotlight and tries to recapture the creative inspiration that led her band to success.

HER SMELL will hit theaters on April 12, 2019 in New York and April 19, 2019 in LA, with a national expansion to follow.
