Alex Ross Perry to direct adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Half

The Dark Half, Alex Ross Perry, Stephen King

There are so many Stephen King adaptations out there that it's hard to keep track of them all, but here's another one to add to the ever-growing pile. Deadline has reported that Alex Ross Perry (HER SMELL) has been tapped by MGM to adapt and direct THE DARK HALF, a feature film based on King's 1989 bestseller.

The novel deals with a writer's pseudonym which comes alive and destroys everyone on a path that leads to the man who created him. Stephen King wrote the novel after his own pseudonym, Richard Bachman, was exposed by a bookstore clerk in Washington, D.C. This isn't the first time that "The Dark Half" will hit the big-screen, as George Romero brought the tale to life in 1993 in a film which starred Timothy Hutton, Amy Madigan, and Michael Rooker.

A synopsis of "The Dark Half" via Amazon:

Thad Beaumont is a writer, and for a dozen years he has secretly published violent bestsellers under the name of George Stark. But Thad is a healthier and happier man now, the father of infant twins, and starting to write as himself again. He no longer needs George Stark and so, with nationwide publicity, the pseudonym is retired. But George Stark won’t go willingly. And now Thad would like to say he is innocent. He’d like to say he has nothing to do with the twisted imagination that produced his bestselling novels. He’d like to say he has nothing to do with the series of monstrous murders that keep coming closer to his home. But how can Thad deny the ultimate embodiment of evil that goes by the name he gave it—and signs its crimes with Thad’s bloody fingerprints?

Alex Ross Perry's last film, HER SMELL, hit theaters earlier this year and starred Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Take) as Becky Something, a '90s punk-rock superstar whose fame is fading just as quickly as her life falls apart around her. Finding herself shunned, isolated, and alone, Becky is forced to confront her demons and try to recapture the creative inspiration which first led her band to success.
