Elle Fanning to star in Nicolas Winding Refn’s horror movie Neon Demon

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Nicolas Winding Refn announced back in November that his next film would be the female led horror film NEON DEMON. Not much was revealed about the project aside from the fact it would shoot in early 2015 and would feature collaborations with composer Cliff Martinez and cinematographer Phillippe Le Sourd, both from DRIVE and ONLY GOD FORGIVES.

Now we know that the film will star Elle Fanning who adds yet another acclaimed filmmaker to her filmography. Fanning, who has overshadowed her older sister Dakota in recent years, has worked with a who’s who of directors including Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, David Fincher, Sofia Coppola, Francis Ford Coppola, J.J. Abrams and Cameron Crowe.

We also have a brief synopsis for the film.

Fanning will play an aspiring model who is caught in a world of beauty and demise.

NEON DEMON could easily be Refn’s BLACK SWAN or something completely unexpected. I have learned from his movies that whatever genre or subject he tackles will not stick to formula once it hits the screen. Fanning has acted in films large and small in scale, so NEON DEMON should be par for the course for her.

The film has no release date but do not expect it any earlier than the end of the year.
