Clerk, an upcoming documentary about filmmaker Kevin Smith, is gearing up for its digital release and we have an exclusive clip that can be viewed at the top of this story.

Clerk examines the life and career of indie filmmaking icon Kevin Smith and features interviews with friends, family, filmmaking peers, and icons of the film, comedy, and comic worlds. 1091 Pictures acquired the rights to the documentary back in August and the doc, directed by Malcolm Ingram, had its premiere in March at SXSW. Here is what Smith had to say about the film when it was picked up by 1091:

“I’m legit thrilled that 1091 snapped up Malcolm’s masterpiece, Clerk. To say I love this deep-dive documentary into my favorite subject matter is a gross understatement and I’m stoked that this inspirational little flick has been 1091’ed! Clerk couldn’t have found a better home than with the same folks who made The Last Blockbuster such an undeniable success. I’ll be doing everything I can to assist in distributing this self-promotional piece of propaganda that tells the unlikely Cinder-fella story about a Jersey boy who made that one good movie back in the ’90s – including touring with Malcolm and his movie wherever they’ll welcome the two of us and Clerk. (which is a lot like Clerks, except you leave the S off for Savings)!”

News of the Clerk acquisition came as Smith celebrated his 51st birthday which also happened to be the same day he began production on Clerks III, the long-in-the-works sequel to his self-funded 1994 indie smash hit that launched his career as a writer-director, actor, comic book guru, podcaster, producer and TV host. Clerk has its digital release planned for November 23, 2021.

Our critic Matt Rooney got a chance to see the documentary at SXSW this year, and you can read his review here!
