A new trailer for Fantastic Beasts 3, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, has been unveiled and it teases a war between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. The new trailer arrives soon after the release of some stunning character posters from last week.

Per the film’s official synopsis, “Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”

Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling and longtime series screenwriter Steve Kloves penned the script, based upon a screenplay by Rowling. Directed by David Yates, this will be the third film in a planned series of five Harry Potter prequels. The third installment stars Eddie Redmayne, Jude Law, and Mads Mikkelsen as the central villain, Gellert Grindelwald. Johnny Depp previously played the role but he was replaced by Mikkelsen following Depp’s very public issues with his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The film’s release has jumped around a bit, with filming beginning in early 2020 but having to halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film follows the events of the second film, The Crimes of Grindlewald, which was met with a lukewarm reception from both critics and audiences, and ended its box office run as the lowest-grossing entry in the Wizarding World series with $654 million worldwide.
