Fantastic Fest will close with Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins!

Fantastic Fest, home of a gaggle of eclectic, eccentric genre films from all corners of the world, will close with a Takashi Miike film, and I think that’s rather appropriate. Via a press release, we just received word that the director’s 13 ASSASSINS will close out the Austin-based fest.

We’ve also got the Japanese trailer for your eyes below. Granted, it’s in Japanese (duh), but all you need are the visuals to know that this looks like a faithful updates of an old-school samurai tale in the tradition of Zhang Yimou or even Akira Kurosawa…

The noble samurai Shinzaemon Shimada is secretly commissioned to assassinate the evil Lord Naritsugu after his bloody rise to power. Assembling an elite group of samurai, Shinzaemon plots to ambush the Lord on his annual journey home from Edo. The courageous samurai know it’s a suicide mission because the Lord is closely protected by a deadly entourage led by Shinzaemon’s nemesis, the ruthless Hanbei. To capture Lord Naritsugu, Shinzaemon and his skilled samurai transform a mountain village into an intricate death trap.
